HFC Striders
HFC Striders Philosophy

Philosophy
The HFC Striders are a running club consisting mainly of women's and men's distance runners who compete in open and masters races. We participate in races varying from the mile to the marathon. Most of our races are on the roads, however we also compete in track and cross country events, relays and multi-events.

Most of our members join us for the rigor and structure of our group training program. However, we also understand the need for balance between our running avocation and other important commitments, especially family and careers. We attempt to maximize the training opportunities of our group runs. A key club goal is to participate in as many racing events throughout New England as we can, with a focus on camaraderie, teamwork and fun.

Our club attracts not only athletes but also fans of the sport. Among our active members we have seven Boston Globe All-Scholastic Coaches of the Year as well as high school and college coaches, race directors and administrators, certified officials and members of executive boards associated with the sport.

We strive to keep the proper focus between the rigors of the sport and the social and fun-loving nature of runners. HFC allows each member to choose the races and events they would prefer without pressure to compete for the club. The HFC Striders are well known for their post race celebrations.

Jason Cakouros serves as head coach and actively competes for the Striders. Workouts are sent via e-mail to all club members as well as long term training goals and upcoming races. Race results are sent weekly to members via e-mail. Jason and other experienced runners are available to club members for personalized instruction and guidance, as appropriate.

The club also supports numerous running-related events. Members of HFC currently direct three running events a year the Dedham Road Race, the Ollie Road Race and the Norwood Turkey Trot. The club sponsors two or three teams for the annual Lake Winnipesaukee Relay and in 2004 will be traveling to the Utica Boilermaker 15K in July.

For golf enthusiasts, the HFC Open is held each year in October. The Annual HFC Convention is held in January, where the previous year's successes are celebrated and plans are made for the upcoming year. On an informal basis, many members congregate after workouts for dinner, summer barbecues are common, and baseball trips are arranged yearly.
